there are certain occult milieux where although it is not fair to say that *everyone* in the scene believes they are actually from fairyland or secretly the sun god, it is fair to say that those people are living to some degree as though they are, and in very many cases this is because of a hardcore of lunatics who really and deeply believe they have some fantastic background and they expressed and evangelised this vibe so well that everyone in the scene picked up on it to a greater or lesser extent. everyone outside the vibe bubble can tell these people are living in a sort of fairyland of their imaginations where they are Atlanteans or whatever.
the transhumanist milieu is one such. although most H+ people do not believe they are living in the big c Computer, there is a hardcore of lunatics who really do believe they are living in JEHOVAH’s big Computer and so the “eventually feasible idea” is a fait accompli. this vibe leaks through and pools in people who merely live inside the little c computer on their desk.
[if you find yourself using] the phrase “potentially practical” to refer to a fairyland scenario of cloning identities on the computer that is anything but practical and if you are in a mood for philosophical elimination, i really encourage you to put “thought experiments” like this back where they belong in fairy tales, because it will dissolve so many problems.
